The top 10 global Engineering achievements for 2024, selected by the journal of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (Engineering), were released in Beijing on Monday. Car-t cell therapy, Chang ‘e-6, low-orbit communication satellite constellation, flexible display, high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant, smart factory, driverless CAR, surgical robot, Vincennes video large model Sora, and ultra-large wind power equipment were selected.
Academician Chen Jianfeng, Secretary general of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and executive editor of Engineering, introduced that the world’s top ten engineering achievements mainly refer to major innovation achievements in engineering science and technology that have been completed and validated in practice in the past five years and have a global impact. The world’s top 10 engineering achievements in 2024 were determined through global nominations, expert selection and recommendation, public questionnaires, and deliberation by the selection committee.
Chen Jianfeng said that this selection of the world’s top ten engineering achievements reflect three characteristics: first, it represents the most advanced technical level or major original breakthrough in one or more engineering science and technology fields, which can lead the direction of future technological progress, such as CAR T cell therapy marking the arrival of the era of cell therapy; Second, the overall goal has been achieved through technology integration and resource optimization, showing remarkable system integration and innovation characteristics. For example, the low-orbit communication satellite constellation is gradually becoming an important part of the global communication network with its unique technical advantages. The third is the birth of new industries and new momentum, such as driverless cars and flexible displays, which represent the development direction of new quality productivity and have broad application scenarios.
On the same day, the Chinese Academy of Engineering also released the “Global Engineering Frontiers 2024” report, according to the subject areas of the 9 departments of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, through the combination of data analysis and expert research and judgment, the 92 engineering research frontiers and 92 engineering development frontiers were selected, and the most important 27 research frontiers and 27 development frontiers were deeply analyzed. We will formulate road maps for key frontier development.
